Laugh and smile and the world will join you.
Cry and lament and the world will abandon you.
Drama is always drama when it's someone else's pain,
It only becomes real when it hits the home domain.

If we took just a little time to look just a little deeper,
Instead of passing judgment to appease our apathetic creature,
We might be able to help avert another's inner pain,
Bring them some sunshine through their pouring rain.

This is called Compassion, the world's in short supply
And instead of helping others, we simply pass them by,
Or we criticise and condemn, adding to their grief,
Instead of listening with intent to bring them some relief.

We must try not to be too busy for someone in need,
Never too preoccupied to hear another's plead.
Another's pain can be masked, hidden by disguise,
Concealed in their heart, behind 'happy' eyes;
Or their pain can be shown in ways we will reject,
Often and in ways obscured we will not expect.

Many times a person suffering from too great a pain
Will attempt to test the waters, trying to ascertain,
To see who'll care enough about what they're going through,
Genuinely concerned when they ask, "What can I do?"
Many put up walls to see who'll care enough
To climb over them just to call their bluff.

Sharing one's pain can be more painful to disclose,
Because of others' judgment, condemnation they impose.
There is no greater pain than the pain within.
Those without fault have forgotten their own sin.

When a person finds the courage to from others' help seek,
We must not criticise, make fun, or call them weak.
Instead, we must show Compassion, try to understand,
The courage it has taken them to seek a helping hand.

We may or may not be able to help them or assist,
But this doesn't mean that their pain does not exist.
That all too familiar, "There's nothing I can do",
Excusing one from caring, a convenient exit cue,
Is too often put in motion just to circumvent
One's lack of empathy of callous heart intent.

When others cry for help, express their own despair,
Often all they need is to know that others care.
A little validation of what they're going through,
Can make a world of difference, another's strength, renew.
But when with callous heart, a troubled soul's dismissed,
It may be the final straw and of death, the catalyst.

Oh, this world would be a much better place,
If we took a little time to see the heart behind the face,
A heart that may be suffering but too afraid to tell,
A heart that may be drowning in a painful swell.

Take a little time to listen to a heart caught in despair,
For you may need the same one day, someone that will care.

Golden-Rule

Greetings, from Artsieladie!

Most people know the "Golden Rule". So, why are so few actually practicing it? ♥

 "The Golden Rule"
(quoem: poetic quote)
"Do onto others as you would want done onto you."
Do not expect others to accept wrongs you may do.
Ask yourself one simple question before you do or say,
'If this were done to me, would I think this to be okay?'
Your answer to this question is all you'll ever need
To know what's the best way to forward act, proceed.
If you do to others what you wouldn't want done to you,
Don't complain you've bitten off more than you can chew.

How many actually live their lives by The Golden Rule?
How many in their toolbox of life make use of this tool?
Most know how to quote it, advise others to apply,
But really, how many actually do, these words live by?
How many recite this rule, take serious the notion,
Review carefully behaviour before put in to motion?

It's obvious this rule has become all but obsolete
Just by observing how others, many people treat.
There is no thought given, no consideration,
What is dumped on others, causing aggravation.
Then when is received that which has been served,
The dispenser cries foul, denying what's deserved.

If every time before we acted, to allow ourselves to see,
We asked a simple question: "Would I like this done to me?"
Our answer would enlighten us with all we'd need to know
Just by whether the answer is a simple yes or no.
There's no need for analyzing or for a super sleuth.
It's basic elementary, the plain and simple Truth.

If you lie and deceive, manipulate and such,
When it is returned, thank yourself very much.
If you use and abuse, think it's fine, fun and charming,
When rewarded with the same, it shouldn't be too alarming.
If you get pleasure from causing others lots of pain,
Don't be too surprised when all it does is rain.
If you toy with others' hearts to serve a selfish ego boost,
Expect grief personified to come back with you to roost.

So, if you treat others badly, you're asking for the same,
Don't expect sympathy when you're burned by 'your' flame.
If you treat others well and as you wish also to be treated,
You're within your rights to expect the circle be completed.
But if you treat others kindly and some don't reciprocate,
Karma's keeping record and will hand them their fate.

If by The Golden Rule all would live and thus apply,
Hearts would be happier with no tears to shed or cry.
Because we'd be thinking of others before we act
And also of ourselves as to what we do attract.
When we treat others as how we'd like it be returned,
We invite the same instead of begging to be burned.

Yes, The Golden Rule, though very simply stated,
Its message is profound, yet grossly underrated.
If we would each apply this rule in our daily life,
Drastically we'd reduce all our stress and strife.
As we would want done onto us, we would do this onto others,
At last in harmony we'd live and Love as sisters and as brothers.
